Monthly Inspiration, March 2018

Monthly Inspiration, March 2018

Back from my travels and excited to share my loves; passions and sources of inspiration, I’ve decided to start a monthly newsletter. Each letter will feature new products and let you know a little bit about my designs or my selections. I will also give you an insight into where I find inspiration and the places, people and experiences which help create the Sweetlime brand. This month we begin with the bold and festive colour, orange and a couple of Spanish cities that make me what to keep going back for more.

With love, Elspeth

FOCUS

Orange is a vibrant and warm colour, which evokes feelings of happiness; optimism and flamboyance. We often associate it with the saffron robes of Buddhist monks. Saffron being measure-for-measure the most expensive spice in the world. The first recorded use of “orange” as the name of a colour was 1512. It takes its name from the ripe orange fruit, the most commonly grown fruit in the world.

Rich, deep and spicy or bright, vivid and zingy, orange is a colour I love to use in my designs. A great way to feel the benefits of the colour orange is to catch a sunrise or a sunset. We are lucky to be able to experience some of the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets here in St Ives.

TRAVEL

A taste of Barcelona

Barcelona is a city with everything you would expect from a city and more: bars, cafés, great food, architecture, culture and, to complete the picture, beaches. As food is one my big loves, I would suggest a visit to Cerveceria Catalana for a huge selection of tapas. No reservations possible, so expect to queue, but it’s worth it. With a sweet tooth and a chocolate addiction, I hope to make it to Chök Barcelonaon my next visit. Here you can indulge in all things chocolate, with a variety of donuts to add to the mix.

If you want to try some tapas at home, try the recipes in Omar Allibhoy's book Tapas Revolution, the chef is on a mission to bring Spanish food & culture to the UK.
